17 students from DehraDun on US Trip to participate in NASA certification programme

A team of students, including 17 students from DehraDun are in Orlando for a lifetime's  experience. The 17 students from DehraDun are from The Aryan School. They are accompanied by a teacher.

Over the next 12 days, the children will participate in a Nasa certification programme on space science at the Kennedy Space Center in Orlando, spend a day each at Disney Park, Island of Adventure and Universal Studios before travelling to Boston for a day-long Robotics workshop at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Thereafter, the students will travel to New York for a Broadway workshop and a trip to the Statue of Liberty. On the final day, the students have a Wall Street workshop to attend and a trip to the Empire State Building, a famous landmark in the Manhattan skyline.

"The field of space science and robotics has always fascinated students of all ages. Today it has emerged as one of the most revered fields in the world. Organizations like Nasa, Cosmodome and ESA have taken the initiative to educate and train the young minds to be the workforce of tomorrow," said Anirudh Jhajharia (business head east India) of Inizio Edutech Pvt Ltd, the company that is coordinating the trip.

Apart from an insight into space and robotics, the cross-cultural exposure as they travel from one city to another and mix with students from different counties is expected to make it an enriching experience.

Max India Group Chairman Analjit Singh and his daughter, Tara, CEO of Antara Senior Living, announced the launch Antara Senior Living Ltd. Antara Senior Living will offer luxury residential apartments to seniors on the foothills Mussoorie.

A wholly-owned subsidiary of Max India, Antara Senior Living will build 217 high-end apartments that are expected to be completed in 2015.

Concept for the establishment arrives as India’s population is expected to have 118 million senior citizens by 2016.

“Our vision is to create fun and healthy lifestyle for senior citizens keeping in mind the world class standards,” said Tara Singh.

Sacred Hemkund Sahib opens for Darshan



Hemkund Sahib reopened on Saturday, 25th May, 2013 much to the ecstasy of the devotees. The devotees took a holy dip in the glacial lake at Hemkund Sahib as the Sikh shrine reopened on Saturday after an eight-month winter break. Thousands of pilgrims, including Uttarakhand Minority Commission chairman NS Bindra, took a ritual bath in the lake before paying obeisance at the gurdwara.

Devoted to Guru Gobind Singh, the shrine finds mention in Dasam Granth, a piece of work believed to have been narrated by the tenth Sikh Guru, and is closed for eight months in October because of snow-bound conditions.

PC Jeweller decides to close the manufacturing unit in Dehradun




PC Jewellers today said it has decided to close one of its manufacturing unit in Dehradun as part of a consolidation process.

In a filing to the BSE, PC Jeweller said "the board of directors has decided to shut down its manufacturing unit located at Selaqui, Dehradun due to operational reasons".

The company used to manufacture hand-made jewellery from this unit and there was not much machinery, he added. PC Jeweller will be left with four plants -- one in Dehradun and three in Noida.

Doonite shines in Class XII ISC results

The results of the Class 10 and 12 students under the Council of Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) were announced on Friday.

All the three Class X (ICSE) toppers (with 98.4%) are from Maharashtra and Class XII (ISC) topper with 99% is from Dehradun.

The class XII ISC topper is Bhuvanya Vijay of St. Joseph's Academy in Dehradun with 99%.
